How to Get Stickers off a Car's Exterior

To remove stickers from the car’s exterior, you’ll first need to gather the following items:

  • Car washing soap
  • Hairdryer
  • Plastic card (such as an old membership card)
  • Goo Gone Automotive or tree sap remover
  • Some dry and clean towels

After you’ve gathered the items listed above, follow these steps to remove a sticker from your car’s body:

  1. First, clean the sticker and immediate area with the car washing soap.
  2. Then, set the hairdryer to “hot,” and hold it about two to three inches away from the sticker. Do this for a few seconds to heat the sticker.
  3. Gently push the plastic card under the sticker’s edge. The adhesive residue should start to lift, allowing you to peel the sticker off. It may come off all at once or in pieces, so you may need to repeat the step above to remove it all.
  4. If you’re left with a layer of residue, you may be wondering how to remove sticker residue from a car. Take a clean, dry cloth and add some tree sap remover or Goo Gone Automotive and use gentle pressure to wipe until the residue is gone.

How to Get Stickers off a Car's Window

Removing the stickers from a car window is a different process. In this case, the hairdryer isn’t needed, and you can use a razor blade in place of a plastic card. Use the razor carefully and never on tinted windows. In addition to the razor blade, you’ll need the following items: 

  • Some dry and clean towels
  • Rubbing alcohol 
  • Hot water and dish soap 

Once you’ve gathered the materials above, take the following steps:

  1. Using the razor blade, peel up some of the sticker, then remove it as cleanly as possible.
  2. After you’ve mixed the water and dish soap, dip your clean towel into it, then rub the sticker residue until it breaks apart. This may finish the job, or you may need to proceed to the next step.
  3. To remove any remaining residue, use the razor blade and scrape the residue until it lifts.
  4. Rubbing alcohol can remove particularly stubborn sticker residue. Soak a paper towel in the alcohol, then scrub the area gently. You can use the razor blade to touch-up the area and remove any remaining pieces.
